During the recessions and down markets like our current economy, they emphasize how you are going to get a good deal from buying homes that are cheaper than ever before.

A while back I wrote about how I feel that college kids are way too saddled with debt from student loans. A recent article by CNN indicates that things are only getting worst as a result of the recession.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/LIVING/personal/08/27/student.loans/index.html

I can’t imagine how so many students were allowed into loans with little to no protection. In comparison a 35 year old who wants to open a business knowing full well what they’re applying for can ultimately file for bankruptcy to discharge all debts owed. An 18 year old with $25,000 in student loans cannot discharge any debts related to college expenses.

How does a young adult whose never had a real job with steady and strong income be asked to decide if borrowing $25,000 is in their best interest.

They were never told that having a job wasn’t guaranteed in the future and definitely wasn’t told they would be getting jobs as interns and coffee fetchers during their first few years out of college that won’t even be enough to pay for the $500 a month in student loans and another $250 in car loans.

As I’ve predicted before I think that student loans are a bubble waiting to burst and unless the government with its bailout mentality want to help the hundred of thousands of students reset their loans or forgive a part of it than expect the number of defaults to be staggering.

The economics of paying off a loan simply don’t add up in the interest of the student. The house is once again playing the game with loaded dice. Serious investors funding private loans temp kids with dreams of a nice career so that the kid thinks borrowing $65,000 for a degree in communications will be worth their while, no one tells you what the job market really is. Even in those few times with extraordinary job growth only a few relatively small verticals were seeing college kids getting job offers before they graduated. And with every bubbling industry those tech jobs experienced in the late 90s didn’t last either.

The article ends off with a student who decides that even after taking on so much debt in the first place and not finding work, that they should go ahead and borrow more money for another degree. How much debt does a person need to have before they start off life. Pretty soon everyone out of school will be in more debt than they can handle.

Has anyone noticed lately that the Summer driving season hasn’t hit gas prices too badly this year. I have been keeping a pretty consistent observation of the gas prices in the past two months and while they have inched their way up towards the $3.00 mark, for regular unleaded the price has never gotten to or surpassed $3.00 (yet). I am hoping that it stays this way, of course I’m sure a lot of this has to do with the down economy. I’m still able to drive around and afford gas for my car without seriously putting a dent into my spending therefore I’m satisfied.

With that said I got a fill up yesterday and found that I got some pretty decent gas mileage out of my tank this past fill up.

I plugged my numbers into GasDandy of course and here’s what I got for my results.

According to GasDandy I was getting 38 miles per gallon. That’s Awesome!

If you want to try it out for yourself get the free trial of GasDandy and try it for free for a few weeks.
