The Government Announces a Recession After Black Friday

Today CNN just sent me a news alert that said the economy has been in a recession since December 2007. Now it does not come as a surprise to me that our economy has been sluggish and if it wasn’t in a recession it surely was asleep as the unemployment rate has been going up, job stability has been critical, and just about everyone in the country is facing foreclosure.

It’s Official A Recession

But how is it that the timing of the announcement has held out strong until the week after the strongest shopping day in the year?

After this past weekend of heavy shopping, which many retailers rely on so much during a year, we are told that the economy is in a recession, watch out because your jobs are going to be cut, WaMu is going to cut over 9,000 jobs, and may not recover for years. It begs to wonder why the announcement didn’t come prior to the biggest shopping day of the year when the government knows full well that everyone will be excited to go out and spend more of their already small savings. I’m sure this recession news wasn’t exactly an epiphany.

The only ones to control our spending are ourselves.
